never to late to begin

This past summer my husband surprised me, and got me something i have always wanted... a GUITAR!
i have always wanted to learn to play the guitar. i began taking lessons a few months ago.
let me say, it is NOT easy learning something new when you are 35.
i envy my kids and their ability to absorb and retain information. i admire the time they have to practice and pursue the things they are passionate about. i admire how they can enjoy every aspect of their passion without the weight of dinner, bills, laundry, and the never ending to-do's. sometimes these things cause me to want to throw in the towel and call it quits!
but i know me. i know that i need to follow through. i know that i need to pursue the things i long to do, otherwise that longing will always be there.

so here it is my friends- after 8 lessons, totaling $200, i can play "Jesus Loves Me" on the guitar.
and that longing in me being filled is PRICELESS!

what have you always wanted to learn to do?

Yay, Denise! You rock, girl! :)

I learned guitar about 4 years ago... not too great at it, but I try! And it was fun to learn something new! :)

I have always wanted to learn to play the fiddle (or violin for the more spohisticated people)....maybe someday.

My 7yr old takes guitar lessons and I am learning a little from him.....a very little.

That's so great!

I just wanted to let you know that I added you onto my blogroll. I really enjoy checking out your blog and I'm sure my friends and family would be blessed by checking it out too. Let me know if that's not ok with you.

Have a great Monday!!

I love every minute of watching you play because it IS hard (being a grown-up) and YOU are DOING IT! Joe laughs at me because I have notes I keep in the glove compartment of the car to tell me what to do when I ski. I may have notes to remind my old brain what to do, but I ski! Yes I do! Next on the list: write a book, but I don't have any ideas so it's on hold.

That's great! Keep at it. John would love to learn the piano, and I keep encouraging it, but WHEN is a big question most days. :) He picked up the guitar a few years ago, had a few very informal lessons from a friend (enough to learn some more on his own), tried to practice, then finally gave up - not forever, just for now. He has a 7 year old son who wants his attention when he gets home at night, and after the kids are in bed who wants to make more noise? :)

Anyway, that's terrific. It feels so good to be creative.

Awesome! You sound great - you have a beautiful voice to boot! I've played guitar for over 10 years and still probably know about 8 chords that keep me going. Guitar is so great because you can sing and dance along with the guitar playing! And kids love it! And you can worship so easily!

I've wanted to get better at playing piano. For some reason I see myself playing piano or giving lessons as I age. I figure it's an artistic and mathematical skill that will (hopefully) keep my brain sharp. It's on my 'to do' list. :)
